How to Clean and Care for Your Heeve Recycled Rubber Threshold Ramp

Heeve threshold ramps are made in Australia from 100% recycled rubber—offering a durable, eco-friendly solution for residential, commercial, and mobility access needs.

Because of the nature of recycled materials, each ramp is unique. It’s normal to see small differences in texture, colour, or finish. This guide addresses some common questions and shows you how to clean and maintain your ramp for the best performance.

What to Expect: Natural Variation

Each ramp may have:

  • Surface glue marks from the manufacturing process
  • Slight blemishes or texture inconsistencies
  • Loose rubber fibres or small excess pieces at the edges

These are normal characteristics of recycled rubber products, not defects. They do not impact the ramp’s safety or function.  If needed, small edge pieces can be carefully trimmed with scissors.

Initial Cleaning: Improve Grip and Safety

Some customers find their ramp slightly slippery when brand new. This is often due to residual materials left over from production.

For best result, we recommend a quick initial clean before first use:

  1. Mix warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap and a splash of vinegar.
  2. Scrub the surface with a stiff brush, sponge, or mop.
  3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  4. Allow the ramp to dry completely before using.

This process removes any residue and improves traction.

Ongoing Ramp Care

Heeve Recycled Rubber threshold ramps are low maintenance, but a little care goes a long way.

To keep your ramp in good shape:

  • Hose down occasionally to remove dirt or debris
  • Wipe with a damp cloth for quick cleaning
  • Avoid high-pressure washing or harsh chemicals
  • If the ramp isn’t fixed in place, store it flat when not in use to avoid warping

These ramps are weather-resistant and built to perform indoors or outdoors.

Performance & Safety Tips

  • Rubber grip improves over time with regular use
  • In high-traffic or slippery environments, you can secure the ramp with an anti-slip mat or adhesive if needed
  • A mild rubber smell at first is normal and will fade with ventilation

Returns & Expectations

Heeve Recycled Rubber threshold ramps are built for durability and safety. However, due to the nature of recycled rubber, the following features are standard and not considered faults:

  • Glue residue
  • Surface texture variation
  • Loose fibres or edge trimmings

These do not affect the product performance. For this reason, returns for these features are not accepted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes each recycled rubber ramp unique?

Each ramp is made from 100% recycled tyres, so it comes with its own unique look. Subtle variations in colour or texture are completely normal, but they won’t affect quality or performance.

What are the benefits of using recycled rubber for these ramps?

Recycled rubber is tough, weather-resistant, and environmentally friendly. It offers excellent grip, noise reduction, and long-lasting durability. Plus, by reusing tyres that would otherwise go to landfill, these ramps are a sustainable choice without compromising on strength.

Why does my ramp have glue residue or loose rubber pieces?

This is completely normal. Heeve Recycled Rubber Threshold ramps are made from recycled rubber, so surface glue or small loose edges are part of the production process and not defects. These can be easily trimmed with scissors if needed.

Is the ramp slippery when wet or brand new?

The ramp may feel a bit slippery at first due to a light manufacturing residue. This can be easily removed with a quick wash using warm water, dish soap, and vinegar, which helps improve grip. Once cleaned, the textured rubber surface provides solid traction—even in damp conditions.

Are these ramps strong enough for everyday use?

Absolutely. These ramps are solid and heavy-duty, perfect for wheelchairs, trolleys, mobility scooters, and more. They're built to handle frequent use with ease.
